Oxytocin ‘the love hormone’

Oxytocin is a hormone that is produced in the hypothalamus of the brain and secreted by the pituitary gland.
During childbirth it causes contractions in the uterus and it is released when breastfeeding as a result of stimulation of the nipples. The high levels of oxytocin in the mothers system cause bonding with the baby.

Oxytocin is also released when the nipples are stimulated during sexual foreplay, which results in a heightened sexual response and a more intense orgasm. This hormone also has a role in inducing and maintaining a male erection and it contributes to the intensity of his orgasm.

Oxytocin causes closeness and trust to develop between people, especially in the first 6 months of a relationship.
It has been shown that people with high oxytocin levels, who are in a relationship, are less likely to feel attracted to people outside of their
relationship.

Because of the socializing effects of oxytocin, it has been successfully used to treat certain types of autism. There has also been some success when used to treat fibromyalgia.

The hormone can be compounded into a lozenge or a spray, at a good compounding pharmacy.
